Steam Therapy

*Please Read Below Before Booking*

Face Mask is Required

Booking starting in May 2021

Since ancient times, steam therapy has been used by traditional healing systems around the world to improve and maintain good health and beauty. Turkish baths, Indian sweat lodges, Finnish saunas, and Japanese steam rooms – these are just a few examples of cultures that harness the power of steam. Even Hippocrates recognized that by creating an ‘artificial fever’ (which is what happens during a Steam Therapy Detox treatment) he could cure many illnesses.

Today, most Western health practitioners are unfamiliar with the benefits of steam therapy as research on alternative healing in the West is limited. Contrast that to Japan where steam bathing is recognized as an effective treatment for a wide variety of conditions such as mild depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, nicotine addiction, hypertension, chronic pain, respiratory conditions, and cardiovascular disease.

What is Steam Therapy?

Steam therapy produces a moist heat inside of a steam tent/canopy to provide therapeutic benefits for the Cardiovascular, Integumentary (Skin) and Respiratory systems.

Steam therapy has been known to help stimulate circulation, alleviate pain, tone body tissues, relax nerves and to enhance overall wellness.

Angela Jessie offers steam therapy treatments. The treatment is 20 minutes and includes a herbal blend to the steam treatment.

What to wear?

You will literally be drenched in sweat and the steam. Swimwear is recommended. If you wear your undergarments, I recommend bringing a change with you.

Directly after your session you will be giving a towel to wipe down with. It is recommended to let your body cool down and temperature regulate before showering. A cool/warm shower is also recommended.

While there are lots of benefits associated with steam therapy people should be aware of the risk associated with it as well.

  • Due to the heat, there is a risk of dehydration. Please drink plenty of water before and after your session.
  • Due to extreme heat pregnant women, anyone with heart disease, high/low blood pressure, epilepsy, on antibiotics or anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol are advised to NOT do any steam therapy treatments.

If you are sick...

If you are sick, although steam therapy is beneficial to the common cold etc., my policy is to not work on clients when they are sick for any service offered. Due to not wanting to spread any illnesses from person to person also because if I get sick I can not work.

Eating before session...

Try to avoid eating any heavy foods within 2 hours before and 2 hours after your session.

The health benefits of steam therapy include the following:

Weight Loss

A moderately conditioned person can easily sweat off 500 grams of sweat in a sauna. This is the equivalent of running three to four miles or burning 475 to 600 calories. While the weight of the water loss is regained by re-hydration, the calories burned are not.

As you relax during the Steam Therapy Detox treatment, your body is actually working hard to eliminate toxins and burn fat. Weight loss becomes possible because body fat becomes water soluble at 110 degrees and the body can sweat out fats, toxins, and heavy metals. During a heat treatment your heart works harder pumping blood at a greater rate to boost circulation, supplying the conditioning benefits of continuous exercise. Your heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate increase. Because the metabolism rate increases during the Steam Therapy Detox treatment, you are burning calories, not just water!

We are increasingly aware of the wide variety of toxins that may be in our bodies, including herbicides, pesticides, food additives, air pollution, and household chemicals. When ingested, these chemicals can remain in the body for years. They can alter our metabolism, cause enzyme dysfunction and nutritional deficiencies, create hormonal imbalances and lower our threshold of resistance to chronic disease. Today, studies show that most of us have between 400 and 800 chemical residues stored in the fat cells of our bodies. When our bodies exceed the limit that we can excrete, we begin to store these toxins.

Beautiful Skin

The skin is our body’s largest organ and it is essential in eliminating impurities. As you sweat during a Steam Therapy Detox treatment, the skin pores begin to open and built-up sebum and impurities move out. Dead skin cells are softened and exfoliated so that new softer skin can emerge.

Stress Relief

The most immediate benefit of a Steam Therapy Detox treatment is relaxation. In just a few minutes the gentle warmth of the steam softens hard knots of stress by loosening up all the muscles and allows the clients to deeply relax in the privacy and silence of the steam tent. With the addition of our custom, dried herbal blends placed directly into the steam generator you will experience deeper benefits of relaxation and rejuvenation.

Cellulite Reduction

Effective cellulite reduction can be achieved by increasing circulation, stimulating metabolism, detoxifying and eliminating excess fluids.

Joint Pain Relief

The deep heat of the steam tent helps to relieve pain by causing the blood vessels to dilate. This causes increased blood circulation and allows more oxygen to get to soft tissue injuries and sore muscles. This helps to reduce pain and speeds up the healing process. Increased blood circulation carries metabolic waste products and delivers oxygen rich blood to oxygen-depleted muscles so they recover faster. Muscles relax most readily when tissues are warm.

Eases Sore Muscles

Steam therapy has been found to significantly reduce muscular pain and spasms. Pain is found to be alleviated in just one session and the benefit can last for several days after the treatment. Regular steam treatments 2 to 3 times per week have shown to have profound relief for those having muscle pain due to injury, menstruation pain, headaches, fibromyalgia and low back pain.

As heat penetrates the muscles, capillaries dilate and there is an increased flow of oxygen to sore muscles. Muscles and tissues become more pliable and relaxed helping to increase mobility and reduce stiffness.

Relieves Allergies And Asthma

Steam inhalation is an effective treatment for respiratory conditions and is highly recommended for treatment of sinusitis, bronchitis, allergies and asthma.

How Does Steam relieve Asthma and Allergies?

Steam relieves inflammation and congestion of upper respiratory mucous membranes

Relieves throat irritation by moistening the air

Relieves spasmodic breathing (asthma, croup)

Loosens secretions and stimulates discharge of mucous from the throat and lungs (natural expectorant)

Relaxes muscles and relieves coughing

Keeps the mucous membranes from excessive drying

Improves Circulation And Reduces Inflammation

Steam therapy assists in alleviating inflammation and edema. The increased peripheral circulation provides the transport needed to help eliminate the edema which helps to end inflammation, decrease pain and help speed the healing process.

How Does Steam improve circulation and relieve inflammation?

Heating of one area of the body produces reflex modulated vasodilation in distant-body areas even in the absence of a change in core body temperatures. If, for example, you heat a forearm, then both lower extremities dilate or if the front of the trunk is heated then the hands dilate. Heating of muscles produces an increased blood flow similar to that seen during exercise.

Temperature elevation produces an increase in blood flow and dilation directly in capillaries, arterioles and veins thus widening the blood vessels.

How Does Steam boost immunity?

The heat from a Steam Therapy treatment raises your core body temperature, inducing an artificial fever. During a fever, the production of white blood cells is increased, as is the rate of their release into the blood stream. White blood cells are the primary agents of the immune system. As the generation of antibodies speeds up, so does the production of interferon, an anti-viral protein. In this manner, your body’s immune system is strengthened as it works to combat the fever.

At the same time, sweating helps eliminate toxins and waste products from the body and overall health and resistance to diseases is increased. After detoxification, your immune system has less “housecleaning” to do and can focus on protecting your body from more serious health threats. By sweating, overall health and resistance to diseases is increased.
