History

Since ancient times, steam therapy has been used by traditional healing systems around the world to improve and maintain good health and beauty. Turkish baths, Indian sweat lodges, Finnish saunas, and Japanese steam rooms – these are just a few examples of cultures that harness the power of steam. Even Hippocrates recognized that by creating an ‘artificial fever’ (which is what happens during a Steam Therapy Detox treatment) he could cure many illnesses.


Today, most Western health practitioners are unfamiliar with the benefits of steam therapy as research on alternative healing in the West is limited. Contrast that to Japan where steam bathing is recognized as an effective treatment for a wide variety of conditions such as mild depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, nicotine addiction, hypertension, chronic pain, respiratory conditions, and cardiovascular disease.

What is Steam Therapy?

Steam therapy produces a moist heat inside of a steam tent/canopy to provide therapeutic benefits for the cardiovascular, integumentary (Skin) and respiratory systems. 


Steam therapy has been known to help stimulate circulation, alleviate pain, tone body tissues, relax nerves and to enhance overall wellness. 


Angela Jessie offers steam therapy treatments. The treatment is 20 minutes and includes a face and scalp massage during the session. Includes a herbal blend to the steam treatment


What to wear?

You will literally be drenched in sweat and the steam. Swimwear is recommended. If you wear your undergarments, I recommend bringing a change with you. 


Showering?

Directly after your session you will be giving a towel to wipe down with. It is recommended to let your body cool down and temperature regulate before showering. A cool/warm shower is also recommended. 


Risks...

While there are lots of benefits associated with steam therapy people should be aware of the risk associated with it as well. 

  • Due to the heat, there is a risk of dehydration. Please drink plenty of water before and after your session. 
  • Due to extreme heat pregnant women, anyone with heart disease, high/low blood pressure, epilepsy, on antibiotics or anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol are advised to NOT do any steam therapy treatments. 

If you are sick...

If you are sick, although steam therapy is beneficial to the common cold etc., my policy is to not work on clients when they are sick for any service offered. Due to not wanting to spread any illnesses from person to person also because if I get sick I can not work. 


Eating before session...

Try to avoid eating any heavy foods within 2 hours before and 2 hours after your session. 


The health benefits of steam therapy include the following:

Weight Loss

A moderately conditioned person can easily sweat off 500 grams of sweat in a sauna. This is the equivalent of running three to four miles or burning 475 to 600 calories. While the weight of the water loss is regained by re-hydration, the calories burned are not.

As you relax during the Steam Therapy Detox treatment, your body is actually working hard to eliminate toxins and burn fat. How Does Steam improve circulation and relieve inflammation?

Heating of one area of the body produces reflex modulated vasodilation in distant-body areas even in the absence of a change in core body temperatures. If, for example, you heat a forearm, then both lower extremities dilate or if the front of the trunk is heated then the hands dilate. Heating of muscles produces an increased blood flow similar to that seen during exercise.

Temperature elevation produces an increase in blood flow and dilation directly in capillaries, arterioles and veins thus widening the blood vessels.

How Does Steam boost immunity?

The heat from a Steam Therapy treatment raises your core body temperature, inducing an artificial fever. During a fever, the production of white blood cells is increased, as is the rate of their release into the blood stream. White blood cells are the primary agents of the immune system. As the generation of antibodies speeds up, so does the production of interferon, an anti-viral protein. In this manner, your body’s immune system is strengthened as it works to combat the fever.
